Variations on a tesselation |
Some tesselations are well suited to variations. Several tracks exist: - arrangement of the pattern, for example by enlarging or narrowing inter-pattern spaces, - creation of derived patterns by changing the layout of the basic elements of the pattern. - modification of the pattern by modeling, This page is presented as a case study, namely the implementation of different achievements from the tesselation « 1049 » of Lydia Diard. The basic technique is to build « triangles » in 3D, which form a hole in the back. It is a kind of twist, but there is no flattening like the usual 120 degree twist. It seems that the inventor is Frederik Owesen, with a triangular structure. The tutorial of Lydia Diard actually contains three tesselations: - the base tesselation « 1049 », the pattern of which is organized around a hexagon of radius 1, - the tesselation « Évidence », identical to the previous one, but which is organized around a hexagon of radius 2, - the tesselation « Chevrons », which is organized around a kind of trapezoid of width 1 and length 2. Inspired by this technique, I produced several variations, all prefixed by OGM which means « Genetically Modified Origami ». It is a nod to the creators whose works I modify. Several tracks have been explored: - The tesselation « OGM1049-LD-2012a » is the result of the lengthening of the arms surrounding the initial central circular pattern. We find the general appearance of Lydia Diard's tessellations, but the reasons are more extensive. The back is particularly « flowery »! - tesselations « OGM1049-LD-2012b » and « OGM1049-LD-2017 » come from a desire to break the symmetry of the original paving (present in many tilings!). New fitting problems arise, but the results are very interesting. The back is reminiscent of Voronoi pavements. This path could be explored intensely. - The tessellations « OGM1049-LD-2013-656550 », « OGM1049-LD-2013-754560 » and « OGM1049-LD-2013-757530 » are built on grids whose guidelines form unusual angles. The base triangle is deformed, and these tesselations eventually no longer resemble the original tesselation. This transformation deserves to be studied on other tesselations. So, what are you waiting for? when will you show your creations, |
