Tesselation « Twisted Squares », by Shuzo Fujimoto |
Shuzo Fujimoto's « Twisted Squares » pavement is one of the first tesselations we know about. It belongs to the family of orthogonal tilings that are made using square or rectangular sheets that have been divided in both directions into multiples of 2 (in general). We speak, for example, of 8x8, 16x16 or 32x32 grid. The more the sheet is divided and more patterns can be repeated. So, courage! Download the document « Pavage Carrés vissés, Shuzo Fujimoto ». It contains all the indications for folding a tight tesselation using the screwing of squares. The folds canvas is presented on a 16x16 grid, but nothing prevents you to choose other grids! To succeed this folding, here is the technique: - creation of the 16x16 grid, - outline of the fold pattern - pre-folding - folding itself. A little attention and obstinacy, and the trick will be played! Variations are possible, playing on the arrangement of the square patterns: - achieve a regular tesselation, but by spreading more patterns from each other. You can, for example, place them at 4, 5, ... units of distance. - Make an uneven tesselation, by removing patterns of different distances. The result is always nice! Look at these tesselations in transparency. You will be amazed! |
