First geometric constructions |
One of the magical aspects of paper folding is the ability to make geometric constructions without using the ruler or the compass. Among the first constructions, folding along a parallel to a given direction, or perpendicular to one side, or even bisecting an angle are in common use. Download the document « Constructions géométriques ». It gives indications for the following operations: - create a fold passing through a given point and perpendicular to an edge of the sheet, - create a fold passing through a given point and perpendicular to an existing fold, - create a fold passing through a given point, parallel to an existing fold, - create a fold drawing the bisector of an angle, - create a fold dividing a right angle at a 60 ° angle and a 30 ° angle. Take one or more sheets of paper, and practice doing these things. Look for the precision of the folds. Try to combine these folds to make more complex figures: a right triangle, an equilateral triangle, a rectangle trapezoid, ... |
