Divide a square into 3 or 5 strips
The division of a three-part square is commonly used in folding. Download the document The division of a three-part square is commonly used in folding. Download the document « Diviser un carré en trois » which contains the diagram of the division into 3 vertical strips, then into nine squares by creating three horizontal strips. Use sheets of paper of a reasonable size, for example 21x21 cm.

It is used marks obtained by pinching the end of the virtual folds (that is to say, not heavily marked) that can find reference points. The precision of the folds is vital, take care of the starting points and the points of arrival:
- in step 2, the fold starts from the lower left corner of the sheet, the lower right corner arriving exactly on the small perpendicular created in step 1.
- in step 3, the bottom left corner must be brought exactly to the intersection of the mark made in 2 with the right edge of the sheet.
- in step 4, the valley fold must be perfectly perpendicular to the lower edge of the sheet, the lower left corner arriving exactly at the intersection of the mark made in step 3,
- the same attention must be paid to the other folds.

Note that if you divide each vertical band into two equal parts, you get a 6x6 regular division. If we divide each band in two equal parts, we will obtain a regular 12x12 division. We are talking about a 12x12 grid.

Divide a square into 5 parts is less common use. Download the document « Diviser un carré en cinq » and follow it scrupulously. Warning ! the left side of the sheet does not arrive exactly on the mark, it is necessary to leave a small space before to obtain a correct cut in 5 parts. Try different spaces to familiarize yourself with this step. Finally, fold a 20x20 grid.
