International Origami Internet Olympiad (IOIO)
In 2012, Andrey Ermakov, a great Russian folding artist, founded the International Origami Internet Olympiads (IOIO), which since then has been a growing success.

The principle is as follows:
- a call for participation is launched in March of a given year.
- at the beginning of October of the same year, the participants receive the booklet of the Olympiades, a book presenting 12 tests to be completed in one month.
- each candidate sends a minimum of 3 photos of each folding done before the deadline.
- an international jury of half a dozen people analyzes the photos and notes the work done.
- two rankings are given:
. an individual ranking, based on the sum of the points given by each member of the jury. This ranking refers to the current Olympics champion of the year.
. a ranking by nation, based on the total of gold, silver and bronze medals (the top three marks for a given event) obtained by nationals of a given country.

These Olympiads have been a growing success, measured by the number of participants (nearly 3400 registered in 2017, from 54 different countries!) And the average level of origamists that has continued to increase. In view of the success, the organizers put in place in 2017 a first selection test, aiming to reserve the Olympics itself to a hundred folders. Great champions have emerged, and IOIOs have become an important event.

The tests, based on models, chosen on an international tender, aim at showing the know-how of each candidate. We thus systematically find a simple model, a decorative ball, one or two crease patterns of complex folds, some very difficult foldings (especially box pleated folds of great technicality). A test of free creation on a given subject completes all the tests. The example of IOIO 2015 is illustrated by a photo of each of the tests given that year.

Some French origamists participate in these Olympiads. Some nice medals have been obtained, which you can see in detail by downloading the document « French Ranking at the Olympiades ».
